She took her first quilting stitches on a frame that had been hand-hewn from native oak by her great-grandfather. There’s More Than Corn in IndianaBy Cheryl Nelson – Pink Parakeet Designs
Cheryl is the proud business owner behind Pink Parakeet Designs. When she’s not busy turning fabric into quilts, she is plotting her next quilt design or trying to locate her phone (spoiler: it’s probably under a pile of fabric!). You can find her creations at both local quilt shops and on Etsy. Cheryl thrives on inspiration from everyday life – music, sunny days, a touch of whimsy, and…flamingos! Each pattern tells a story, and she hopes her designs inspire others to create. She enjoys engaging with fellow creators, especially at Camp Tecumseh Quilt Camp in Delphi, Indiana, where every conversation is a learning opportunity.
Hoosier NightsBy Robin Jacobs – A Quilted Home
Robin began sewing at 12 at her mother’s knee. Mixing individual fabrics into nifty creations, a process that never fails to amaze, spawned a cherished family tradition through her kids and grandkids. Working at a quilt shop between custom jobs allowed Robin to connect with diverse customers and explore their unique designs. “As a Christian, I believe God has given me this talent to use for others.” Whether crafting custom designs or utilizing traditional patterns, tailoring her work to her clients’ needs fills her cup daily.
Hoosier BloomsBy Tammy Hermann – Sew So Cozy Designs
Tammy learned to quilt as a young child from her grandmother. However, family life and a career as an executive in the tech industry meant that for decades there was no time for quilting. Tammy is now retired and bringing her high tech skills forward fulltime for quilting and quilt design. Tammy is a Riley Blake Maker for their batiks collection and teaches classes at a quilt shop in New Braunfels, TX. Indiana WindowsBy Carolyn Clark & Dianne Rissman – Forest Mills Quilt Shop
Carolyn began her first quilt in sixth grade (it remains unfinished), while Dianne started and finished her first quilt at 30. The sisters started hand quilting and showcased quilts in local and national shows, including three juried into the Paducah AQS show. In 2004, they opened Forest Mills Quilt Shop on the family’s Century Farm, named after the original small town on the property and featuring a millstone at the entrance. The shop offers an eclectic mix of fabric, reflecting Carolyn’s love for Civil War patterns, Dianne’s love of batiks, and local wildlife.
Brick by BrickBy Wendy Martin – Harvest Moon Quilting Company
Wendy has been sewing, quilting, and crafting all her life. Starting at early age, Wendy remembers tying quilts with both her grandmothers. No matter what craft she is working on now days, quilting is her favorite, especially the math and calculations it takes to design a quilt. Wendy, who has always lived in South Dakota, is a wife, a mother to two beautiful young ladies, works as a nurse, runs a Long Arm Quilting business, and raises a large flock of sheep. When all that does not keep her busy, she enjoys card making and paper crafting with her mother.
